Utila Island Cleanups is a community-led conservation initiative dedicated to the restoration and protection of the island's most fragile marine ecosystems.
Our foundation is built on consistency. We host weekly Wednesday cleanups to maintain Utila’s accessible coastlines year-round, with the goal of expanding to intensive North Shore Missions each trimester as funding permits.
We ensure that collected plastics are removed from the island and processed responsibly on the mainland via Recycle Honduras.
By organizing missions every Wednesday, we foster a culture of environmental stewardship among residents and visitors.
At Utila Island Cleanups, we operate with a clear set of principles to ensure our impact is lasting and meaningful.
We take full responsibility for the lifecycle of the waste we collect.
We believe conservation is a collective effort between locals and visitors.
We share live data and results so our supporters see the real impact of their work.
The Swamper depends on sandy beaches to reproduce; pollution and disturbance directly threaten the future of this unique species.
Did You Know? The Swamper is the only iguana in the world that lives in mangroves but must migrate to the beach to nest.
Coastal pollution and artificial lighting disrupt nesting cycles and disorient Hawksbill and Loggerhead hatchlings.
Did You Know? Hatchlings use the moon's reflection to find the ocean. Artificial lights can lead them inland toward danger.
